Guardian™ Portrait of the Provider (ESFJ)
Providers take it upon themselves to insure the health and welfare of those in their care, but they are also the most sociable of all the Guardians, and thus are the great nurturers of social institutions such as schools, churches, social clubs, and civic groups. Providers are very likely more than ten percent of the population, and this is fortunate for the rest of us, because friendly social service is a key to their nature. Wherever they go, Providers happily give their time and energy to make sure that the needs of others are met, and that social functions are a success.
Highly cooperative themselves, Providers are skilled in maintaining teamwork among their helpers, and are also tireless in their attention to the details of furnishing goods and services. They make excellent chairpersons in charge of dances, banquets, class reunions, charity fund-raisers, and the like. They are without peer as masters of ceremonies, able to speak publicly with ease and confidence. And they are outstanding hosts or hostesses, knowing everyone by name, and seemingly aware of what everyone's been doing. Providers love to entertain, and are always concerned about the needs of their guests, wanting to make sure that all are involved and provided for.
Friendly, outgoing, neighborly - in a word, Providers are gregarious, so much so that they can become restless when isolated from people. They love to talk with others, and will often strike up a conversation with strangers and chat pleasantly about any topic that comes to mind. Friendships matter a great deal to Providers, and their conversations with friends often touch on good times from years past. Family traditions are also sacred to them, and they carefully observe birthdays and anniversaries. In addition, Providers show a delightful fascination with news of their friends and neighbors. If we wish to know what's been going on in the local community, school, or church, they're happy to fill us in on all the details.
Providers are extremely sensitive to the feelings of others, which makes them perhaps the most sympathetic of all the types, but which also leaves them somewhat self-conscious, that is, highly sensitive to what others think of them. Loving and affectionate themselves, they need to be loved in return. In fact, Providers can be crushed by personal criticism, and are happiest when given ample appreciation both for themselves personally and for the tireless service they give to others.
William Howard Taft, Barbara Walters, J C Penney, Ray Kroc, Louis B. Mayer, Sam Walton, Dolley Madison, and Dave Thomas are examples of Provider Guardians.

1. What is under my bed: Tori i love the venting about whats under your bed.  Good thing we never lived together because I sound a little like Jake.  However, I go through periods where I clean it out and get rid of everythinggg. Since i am in a small college dorm under my bed is jam packed! I keep all my clothes, purses, shoes, sleeping bags, etc. under there.  I did nicely organize it all yesterday and it looks great.

2. If toys could talk: I would go buy a disney princess doll and have it on the shoulders all day long.  I would probably choose Bell. She has always been my favorite.  She would tell me about the books she reads, how to make better decisions, and sing! Bell would be my angel.
3. I'd like to see: He's just not that into you!! Comes out Feb. 6 and has suchh a fabulous cast!! Jen Aniston looks BEAUTIFULL like always.  Can not wait!
4. If i could be someone else, I would be Eva Mendes. She is beautiful, she has this glow to her.  She has great healthy curves and a true smile.  I just love her
5. Most fun I've had recently: Gabby and I on occasion go to the park to have lunch and it really is just so fun.  Its about 70ish here and a perfect breeze.  We sit in Forsyth Park and people watch.  There are so many interesting people in Savannah that it is never boring.
6. Sacred possessions: The jewerly my parents have given to me means a lot.  I alway get complements from people about my ring or necklace and i just love them so.  The only time i take off my ring is for working out or painting.
7. What do different colors mean to you: Well being in a color theory class has really opened my eyes and chanced my view on colors. Green and yellow are by far my favorite colors.  I like all shades of green.  Like a mossy green reminds me of my mom.  She always gets that green for her make up and makes her eyes pop even more then they already do. Yellow is just such a happy color. You immediately think of like the wal-mart smiley face.

This may be a little interesting, but my bed is actually stuffed with loads of crapola under it, yet only one thing is mine. Jake is kind of a pack-rat and it drives me absolutely nuts! I am the type of person who cleans out the closets, drawers, shelves, etc at least every six months and send off half a dozen bags to Goodwill and another half a dozen to the dump. So this leads me to discuss all things that I try not to think about, otherwise I might go crazy and throw them out, that are looming under my bed.

First, the only thing that is mine that is under the bed is my Vera Bradley weekend duffle. I do believe it is acceptable to store luggage under your bed. So this doesn't drive me up the wall. There are also a few pieces of Jake's luggage under there that are acceptable as well.

Now on to the all the unacceptable garbage, most of it being useless weaponry (can you tell I need to vent). First off, I don't understand why boys buy this stuff, and why they need to keep it for decades and decades, just to have, yet will NEVER EVER use! Hello, Chinese throwing stars will never be needed. Nor will a set of steel Aces (like playing cards) that are blades on all four sides. Chinese fingertraps- USELESS. Sling-shots are tolerable, because you can at least semi-safely screw around with these things. And then there are knives upon knives.

I am sure there are many other weapons of possible mass destruction lurking under my bed, but I honestly it has been awhile since I have looked because honestly I cannot take the MADNESS! eeeek! I would rather have a friendly monster under my bed.

So I thought about it, and here are a few things I think would be interesting to talk about:

1. what is under your bed (if nothing right now, then maybe something in the past)
2. what if toys could talk? what would they say? etc.
3. I'd like to see...
4. If I could be someone else, I would be...
5. The most fun I've had recently...
6. Sacred possessions/items
7. What do different colors mean to you?

Write on anything that sparks your interest!

What's on your mind? How are you feeling? What are you doing today? I'm at work, they are laying carpet and painting and it smells like a glue gun. Before it smelled like a woodburning kit. Hic, do you still have yours? Didn't you have one? Did I dream that? smellavision. If you do still have it and you are coming to the cabin this weekend. bring it and keep that thing plugged in and when you cut the cheese you could burn some wood so I could be spared the properties of it. Well, I'd like to tell everyone to have a great day! Have a Great Day! I'm glad because it's friday and my outfit is perfectly comfortable. I've succesfully obscounded with Stephanies old fleece lined boots, not the chocolate colored ones. I also have her old belt on that I bought her and was too big that I love. And I have a scarf of hers on that I particularly like, and I have on Mike's cream colored soft buttondown shirt that I bought him. Everything else is mine. The sun is shining and it's lovely to see. My hands are dry though. The afternoon sun when it's on my hands really shows my age. (read:Maggie May)Actually it shows the age of someone who is 100 or so. But, they're good hands. I look like I've been picking potatoes. Does one pick potatoes? Or gather them? I dunno. I do have a dream vacation and I think it's one of those sanctuary/spas in the desert(read:Arizona) where you drink guava juice (?) I dunno what that is actually, maybe cactus juice. And you just sort of chill out and hike and ponder and there's massages and meditation and yoga and I would hope, a ridiculously comfy bed. But what would Mike do? He would like the hiking part. anyway. How I went from potatoes to a spa in the desert I do not know. Oh, my old potato hands made me think of being a peaseant and then I didn't really want to think about being a peasant so I thought about being a princess on a white chaise lounge drinking a California Chardonnay and giggling and looking down at my beautiful old potato hands. So, anyway, what else??? Lets have a writing contest or something. We could each write about one chapter in our lives, I know, the year that changed my life could be the title. They just did a piece on that in GMA I think. Want to? Or on NPR they write essays and they start out I believe....Which idea do you like better? Either? Neither? Have a better one? I thinkit sounds like fun and would give the Blog some direction, really, I'm the only one coloring outside the lines here, but, anyway, let me know if you want to. I want you to. Tori, you pick the topic for everyone maybe. Let me know, I can't wait.....I can't wait......

Silly T. is a Healer

Healers present a calm and serene face to the world, and can seem shy, even distant around others. But inside they're anything but serene, having a capacity for personal caring rarely found in the other types. Healers care deeply about the inner life of a few special persons, or about a favorite cause in the world at large. And their great passion is to heal the conflicts that trouble individuals, or that divide groups, and thus to bring wholeness, or health, to themselves, their loved ones, and their community.

Healers have a profound sense of idealism that comes from a strong personal sense of right and wrong. They conceive of the world as an ethical, honorable place, full of wondrous possibilities and potential goods. In fact, to understand Healers, we must understand that their deep commitment to the positive and the good is almost boundless and selfless, inspiring them to make extraordinary sacrifices for someone or something they believe in. Set off from the rest of humanity by their privacy and scarcity (around one percent of the population), Healers can feel even more isolated in the purity of their idealism.

Also, Healers might well feel a sense of separation because of their often misunderstood childhood. Healers live a fantasy-filled childhood-they are the prince or princess of fairy tales-an attitude which, sadly, is frowned upon, or even punished, by many parents. With parents who want them to get their head out of the clouds, Healers begin to believe they are bad to be so fanciful, so dreamy, and can come to see themselves as ugly ducklings. In truth, they are quite OK just as they are, only different from most others-swans reared in a family of ducks.

At work, Healers are adaptable, welcome new ideas and new information, are patient with complicated situations, but impatient with routine details. Healers are keenly aware of people and their feelings, and relate well with most others. Because of their deep-seated reserve, however, they can work quite happily alone. When making decisions, Healers follow their heart not their head, which means they can make errors of fact, but seldom of feeling. They have a natural interest in scholarly activities and demonstrate, like the other Idealists, a remarkable facility with language. They have a gift for interpreting stories, as well as for creating them, and thus often write in lyric, poetic fashion. Frequently they hear a call to go forth into the world and help others, a call they seem ready to answer, even if they must sacrifice their own comfort.

Personality

I love taking personality tests and learning about other personalities. You should take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. I have taking it a few times and I am an ESFJ (Extravert, Sensing, Feeling, Judging). You can take the quiz at humanmetrics.com. Here's what I am :

Guardians of birthdays, holidays and celebrations, ESFJs are generous entertainers. They enjoy and joyfully observe traditions and are liberal in giving, especially where custom prescribes.

All else being equal, ESFJs enjoy being in charge. They see problems clearly and delegate easily, work hard and play with zest. ESFJs, as do most SJs, bear strong allegiance to rights of seniority. They willingly provide service (which embodies life's meaning) and expect the same from others.

For all you southern gals you should have been in Noblesville today!! 12" of perfectly white fluffy snow that kept the buses in the bus garage and most people home from work...at least for a little while. Jon & Mick shoveled the driveway, I cooked them a hardy breakfast which Mick inhaled. Mocha won't do out to pee because she can't sniff out her favorite spots. Today was Teresa's day to come clean (bummer) needless to say Mick was thrilled to run the vacuum right after shoveling. I got 1 bathroom cleaned before the phone started to ring with the plans for sledding. There is nothing better than seeing the "hill" at Forest Park covered with sledders of all shapes, sizes and ages. I especially enjoyed the vision of Jake and Karli wearing the retro matching snowmobile outfits that Jon and I wore in the early 80's- cute cute! Of course Mike Jon, Bobbi, and I killed time and had lunch at Syd's while the kids played. I got home just in time to clean 2 more toilets, order 6 dresses from Nordstroms hoping to find something to wear to the Auction next week (free shipping so what the heck, I can send them all back if I hate them). Bobbi came back to pick me up around 6 so we could meet the boys and John & Hick at the Elks. (After I made Bobbi help push out some lady that had no business out driving in her little Trans Am with 6" of clearance.) We were so full from lunch we knew we would not need any dinner. Did I mention that we ran into some of the same people we had seen at Syd's for lunch AND we ordered from the Asian Grill. Sounds like a pretty perfect day...and they've already issued a 2 hour delay for school tomorrow. I need to go back to work so I quit eating. HAPPY WINTER!!!!!

\Back home again in Indiana.... beautiful snow has made my trip home worth it. as long as the sun keeps shinning and i can stay home in my jammies i is a happy chick. Kell I am so hoping that you will be able to put your vaudeville show on the road again for my birthday. Sounds like I missed the best of 2009 or maybe 2nd to Tiff showing us her new jump. If she truly has learned to jump will will have to play "Jump for my Love" at her wedding someday
Tonite is wine wednesday at the elks so if anyone is interested give us a call we will be there with hirsch'd & davis's sometime after six, don't make me drink your wine if you don't come by, it can get ugly

anyone have a good tortilla soup recipe?

I have been entering everyday to win the HGTV Dream Home in Sonoma, California. It is absolutely beautiful! I think for some weird reason my parents instilled in me not to enter sweepstakes or contests or whatever so I never have. I mean we were never aloud to throw our name in the bucket to win a car at the mall or whatever, mother/father, correct me if i am wrong? For some reason I just have this feeling it is one of those things I was brought up not to do! But I did learn a trick from my aunt hick, that you should always crumple your slip so it stands out from all the other flat pieces of paper before throwing it in the lottery or whatever! haha! So, now that I am a fully grown adult, I have the pleasure of entering any contest that I please, although Iam always leary. But I threw aside those childhood experiences and I am hoping that maybe, just maybe, i will the hgtv dream home haha-- even though probably millions are also trying to win it. We will see, keep your fingers crossed!

ps- go to hgtv.com to see all the pics and get a tour. btw, did i mention that i am obsessed with hgtv? i could watch it 24/7 and i practically do! Maybe I should have been an interior designer?

just because

Shiloh and Vivienne at the airport in Japan. Cute, cute babies.

I just wanted to comment on two things that truly made my day today, and they are just so simple it is unbelievable!

1. hot chocolate after taking mavy on a walk. It reminds me of childhood when we would go sledding and my mom always had a pot of hot chocolate ready for us when we got back in from the cold! It was tastey!

2. vanilla scented trashbags! yes! It is true. we bought trashbags that have odor guard and they are scented! I was all sad and moody from taking out the heavy, smelly trash and then when it came time to whip out the bag, my nose was lifted to totally new heights! It was truly a breath of fresh of air!

I hope everyone takes a moment to enjoy the little slices of life!

Thanks KiKi!

Hey Kik's, Mike went to the minute clinic at CVS on his lunch break today. It is 2 min. from where he works. And, the Nurse Practitioner is cousins with a guy he works with. She said He has a sinus infection and an ear infection and gave him augmentin. He is home in bed. So, now he is on the road to recovery, thanks to you!! I did not know about the minute clinic. Thank goodness He went, poor guy. Well, anyway, I just wanted to let you know, He should be feeling better soon. Peace~Kelly

These are my three favorite dresses from the SAG awards. I don't even know who won. Maybe I'll check that out, anyway, of the three I think Rosaio wins my best dressed award. I think that's Rosario, anyway, I think satin is hard to wear, but she look glam~ orous!

So this weekend Jakey and I sat down and watched What Happens if Vegas with Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher. I figured it would be your basic rom-com (which it was) but it was pretty hilarious as well. I did lol a good time or two. And of course, it is hard for me to resist little miss camy as she is so cute and adorable. I want my hair styled like hers. Anyway, it is totally cute and pretty funny and I would recommend it.

The second movie we watched was Horton Hears a Who. Now, I did see this movie in theaters about a year ago with Kaily and we were absolutely filled with laughter. Jim Carey + Steve Carell = comedy genius! Kelly, I would def suggest you watch this with con-man and Tiff or hick with all those little kiddies. I just cracked up again last night watching it. My favorite character is this little yellow fluff ball thing (see pic)- i don't even know what she is- but it is hilarious because she is sooo weird! She just has these random little parts in the movie that make me laugh and kind of remind me of mick or conner. Her funniest line is, "In my world everyone is a pony, and they all eat rainbows, and poop butterflies". So it is all around great family fun -- or adult fun if you are me! has anyone else seen it?

Well this weekend was pretty uneventful! I am truly sad to have missed the Indiana excursion (i better be getting updates from everyone). I got to go to the trauma unit at vanderbilt on Saturday and it was really interesting. Unfortunately, the types of patients who get up there usually have really sad or really strange stories. Both of my patients we young males with self-inflicted gunshot wounds (hate to be a debbie downer). But it was all very interesting which was great. What is not great is that fact that some weeks this semester I am going to be having class 6 days a week. ugh. I can tough it out though (2 of those days including 12 hour shifts!).

Anyway, I hope everyone had a great weekend!! Love you!

Vaudeville

Vaudeville was a genre of a variety entertainment prevalent on the stage in the United States and Canada from the early 1880s until the early 1930s.

It developed from many sources, including the concert saloon, minstrelsy, freak shows, dime museums, and literary burlesque. Vaudeville became one of the most popular types of entertainment in North America, defining an entertainment era. Each evening's bill of performance was made up of a series of separate, unrelated acts. Types of acts included (among others) musicians (both classical and popular), dancers, comedians, trained animals, magicians, female and male impersonators, acrobats, one-act plays or scenes from plays, athletes, lecturing celebrities, minstrels, and short movies.

Okay, this was me Saturday night! I'm sorry if you missed it, but now I'm back at work, mild mannered and results driven. hooo, hummmm. Anyway, in my mind, that's me up there with Fred Astaire, I love him and I love dancing with him. And, I like Gene Kelly too, but Fred Astaire is my fave, I remember watching his movies when I was young. I was telling my friend Ryan, here at work, that I was playing Louie Armstrong on the stereo and doing vaudeville he didn't know what either of those things were. hmmm. I guess if you never heard of Cat Stevens your not likely to know who Satchamo is now are you? So it goes!

LOUX FAMILY

Kennedy Loux:::: How presh??

On the Assembly Line

by Virgil Suarez

Cousin Irene worked in the cold of a warehouse
basement in New Jersey, soldering the filaments
to GE lightbulbs. The job required steady hands,
without gloves, bare fingers for sensitivity,
and her hands cramped up eventually, after six
hours or so, but the workday lasted ten or twelve,
in so much cold. This was her life for several
years in America—back home, in Cuba, she'd been
a chicken sexer, a botanist caring for orchids,
a potato peeler, a cigar ring paster, a picker
of papayas—all as a volunteer worker because she
wanted to leave the country. So in Trenton,
Union City, Elizabeth, at least she got paid
for the work she did with her hands, though her
choices continued to be blue-collar work, and she
thanked god for her hands, her reliable hands,
so necessary. She came to the United States
through the Peter Pan Project as a teenager
with the promise of a scholarship to an all-girl
boarding school in Kentucky, which never
materialized—she got as far as New Jersey.
Here, at night, she came home from the factory
and soaked her hands in warm soapy water.
She looked on as her fingers moved, these tendrils
of her once young hands—blessed these ten digits
that rooted her life to so much work and possibility.

Cat Stevens

This album was very famous when I was a young girl. Kim owned it and I listened to it a lot and looked at the album cover, a lot. So, one day in music class it was my turn to bring in music to share. I could hardly contain my excitement. I brought this album and I had selected the title track to play and share with my classmates. However, my music teacher. in a stroke of cruelty that remains with me to this day, decided to play SAD LISA! OMG! NOOOOOO! It's about a girl in an insane asylum. Mind you I'm like in 4th grade! LisaLisa sad LisaLisa. I felt like I might melt into a puddle. Children were snickering and turning and looking at me. How could I explain that this was not the song I wanted to play? That the other song was nice and good and happy like the picture on the front of the album. bright colors and groovy sounds. I went from feeling extra cool to seriously furious at that woman who also made us sing my hat it has three corners, all the time, with hand motions! I like the Tillermans boots and the way they stick out under the table. Wikipedia Says:In 2006, the album was included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. In 2007, the album was included in the list of "The Definitive 200 Albums of All Time", And Rolling Stone placed it on it's list of the best 500 albums of all time, coming in at 206. And wiktionary says:

tillerman (plural tillermen)

  1. (US) A person who steers the rear wheels of a fire engine or controls its ladder

Pioneer Woman

The Pioneer Woman's husband, for her birthday bought her a sushi chef for the evening to come to their ranch and prepare fresh sushi for everyone to watch and enjoy! Isn't that awesome? Nice gift! She invited a bunch of girlfriends over and they drank wine and well, it would, be like having a sushi chef come to Carbon. The pictures are on her websight if youwant to see for yourself www.thepioneerwoman.com It's not as freakishly entertaining as the Tom/tequila(absinthe)video but it's pretty cool.

shiny and happy

Sorry if thinking about the poor house made you sad. So, here's a little something to cheer you up. Look, it's summer! Cute kids with dandelion crowns and tie dye t shirts. Pleasant, happy! Cute and funny! Yeah!

wikipedia says:

A poorhouse or workhouse is a government-run facility for the support and housing of dependent or needy persons, typically run by a local government entity such as a county or municipality.

In Victorian times (for Britain see Poor Law and workhouse), poverty was seen as a dishonourable state caused by a lack of the moral virtue of industriousness (or industry as it was called). As was depicted by Charles Dickens, a poorhouse could resemble a reformatory and house children, either with families or alone, or a penal labour regime to give the poor work at manual labour and subject them to physical punishment.

The term is commonly applied to such a facility that houses the destitute elderly; institutions of this nature were widespread in the United States prior to the adoption of the Social Security program in the 1930s. Facilities housing indigents who are not elderly are typically referred to as homeless shelters, or simply "shelters," in current usage.

Often the poorhouse was situated on the grounds of a poor farm on which able-bodied residents were required to work; such farms were common in the United States in the 19th and early 20th centuries; it could even be part of the same economic complex as a prison farm and other penal or charitable public institutions.

I had to leave Mom's last night because she was burning those smelly candles and they were making my nose itch real bad. And every time I looked at the kraut pot I wanted to hurl. I sat on that couch and the fabric sticks to my clothes in the most uncomfortable, polyester way. In a nutshell it was a full blown suvvy attack. My skin was dry but I felt all puffy and my pants were tight around the middle but too short and I had white socks on. I also had a fleece jacket on which I was uncomfortable with because I knew when I took it off there would be that crackle crackle of static. My nose was so dry it hurt. I had a headache, cramps and work was hard. I went home and took a shower and watched a show on tv about retirement and old age and about the poor house which is a real thing. I actually thought it was just a saying. Driving to work on the radio there was a poem about a woman who's job it was to put the fillament inside of lightbulbs at the GE Factory. After 6 hours her hands would start cramping. She would go home in the evenigs and soak her hands in warm soapy water. She thanked God for her hands that she relied on for so much. Anyway, that's my story about what it's like to be me sometimes and maybe you will understand if I say I have to go home because my nose hurts.

Hi guys! I am sitting here doing homework, which means I am studying for my big licensure exam (I get the pleasure of doing about 4,000 practice questions this semester) and Jake reminded me that I needed to update you all on our bread machine adventures. We absolutely love it and there is nooo way that we are cutting carbs out of our diet this year. And I know I have already talked about the bread machine, but I truly love it so and it needs to be detailed further so that your mouth will be watering when you walk into my condo and visit. You will be begging me for a hot slice of bread. Plus, now I have pics of our best loaf-to-date!

Our first foray into the breadmaking was with a traditional french baguette (Jake's choice). It was good, but apparently we didn't get the flour quite right (we used regular, when bread flour is better). It still tasted good, but it did not rise perfectly.

Next, I made a delicous lemon poppy seed loaf and it was just to die for. It was all we could do not to eat it entirely while it was still hot. We always break the rule of letting it cool before slicing. I mean we have to try at least a tiny bite!

After that I tried one of my favs, banana walnut bread, minus the walnuts. Again, it was super delicous and it didn't last more than a few days.

This last weekend, Jake was in charge of choosing the next loaf and surprise, surprise he wanted to try the beer bread! It was absolutely perfect. He used a light beer so it really had no beer flavor, but it was still yumm-o. He wants to try a darker beer next time so it will have a stronger beer taste I guess, but why mess with perfection?

As I blog, I am making a Sarah Lunn loaf. Now, I had no idea who Sarah Lunn, but my little handy-dandy recipe book tells me that She was an englishwoman who created this bread in her tiny bakery in Bath, England. The recipe was brought over to the colonies and soon became a favorite in the south! I decided it was only right to make a southern bread, in the south-- plus I already had all the ingredients! It is currently rising, but I will be sure to let you know how it goes. I have no doubt it will be DE-licious!

I will make you something when you come to visit!

ps- Jake got made at me for taking a picture of our extraordinary bread moment, but I told him these are the little things that we will want to remember for the rest of our lives and mark our lives together as a young couple ;) can't to see what he has to say when he sees I have posted them on the blog-- just sharing our memories honey! Plus that bread looks AMAZING!

So what do you think? Apparently Rachel McAdams (The Notebook) and Josh Lucas (Sweet Home Alabama) have been spotted canoodling at many of the inauguration events. Now, it is hard for me to say this, as I am a huge fan of the McAdams-Ryan Gosling duo, but these two are pretty darn cute. And I've always had a crush on Josh Lucas since he played a lovable hillbilly in Sweet Home Alabame alongside Reese.

Its beautiful today in Nashville, a sunny 58! Feels like fall. I just got back from walking Mavy and throwing the ball around the front yard. I probably didn't get too much of his energy out, but every little activity helps!

I found a dollar today in the hall after class!

It made me very happy!

Hi chickadees! Well this week has been crazy with classes pretty much in full swing. I am taking some really great classes so though to end up my career here at belmont. I am in a class called senior capstone in which my instructor leads us from being student nurses to professional nurses (Ahh!). It is really great though because she knows a lot of stuff and she helped us get our resumes done yesterday. I am going to attach mine later in the day so I can get everyone's input on it.

I am also filling out an application for the pediatric nurse residency program at vanderbilt. Apparently it is pretty hardcore to get into, but I am going to give it a go anyway. I mean the worst thing they can say is no, and that would be fine! I have plenty of other eggs in my basket. Plus, the area I am interested in, pediatric or neonatal icu is apparently the hardest to get accepted to. The PNR program basically helps you transition into being a nurse with weeks of orientation, classes, learning, programs, etc. I will be a busy little bee!

Has anyone read The Last Lecture? I am reading it for one of my courses and it is really great. Plus it is a quick read, I think I read about half of it in a little over an hour. I hihgly suggest it and it is truly motivational. You can also watch it on youtube!

I cannot believe it is practically February!! And then March, which means cruise time! Anyway I hope everyone is having a fantabulous thursday!

I'm so excited!!! The very beautiful Kiki Clark Rogers arrives in Noblesville today. Mom says she can't figure why Cathy wants to come do chores and clean out closets..."she must thinks I'm gonna die soon". It think it's just because she needs a little Clark Family Lovin' - but we all know that house could use a little airing out. Good Luck Kikis. Mom wants to cook a turkey breast on Friday night, I'm sure she'll cook it all day long. Kelly shall we pitch in and make it a real feast with coktails?? I can't wait!

Sorry ladies dreads give me the creaps on everyone. They make my head itch thinking about all the creapy crawlers that could be wondering around in them. yuck, yuck, yuck

Cassoulet (from Occitan caçolet [kasuˈlet]) is a rich, slow-cooked bean stew or casserole originating in the south of France, containing meat (typically pork sausages, pork, goose, duck and sometimes mutton), pork skin (couennes) and white haricot beans.

The dish is named after the cassole, the distinctive deep round earthenware pot with slanting sides in which cassoulet is ideally cooked.

Viggo

I heard he is going to be in a new movie The Road which is based on the Cormac McCarthy novel. Right On!

I am catching up on the american idol eps this season (there have only been 3, but two were two hours long!). I was just curious if anyone was watching! So far I totes feel like the girls are looking GOOD this year. I can think of a few girls who really burned up the audition! The boys have just been kind of ho-hum. Although I was glad to see Jason Castro again! His brother tried out this year, but he obvy wasn't as cute as jason, with his dreads. I am just so inspired by dreads. I mean, especially when theya re as long as jason's, just think about how long all of that hair has been on his head! His dreads are probs halfway down his back! Plus, he his caucasion! that is quite a feat!

Information highway tells me that our little Tori made the Deans List at Belmont. WOW, way to go girlfriend. I know you have worked hard, great job! Sounds like another reason to go out and celebrate! Love ya girl.

Beauty - Full

The following is a transcript of the inaugural poem recited by Elizabeth Alexander

Praise song for the day.

Each day we go about our business, walking past each other, catching each others' eyes or not, about to speak or speaking. All about us is noise. All about us is noise and bramble, thorn and din, each one of our ancestors on our tongues. Someone is stitching up a hem, darning a hole in a uniform, patching a tire, repairing the things in need of repair.

Someone is trying to make music somewhere with a pair of wooden spoons on an oil drum with cello, boom box, harmonica, voice.

A woman and her son wait for the bus.

A farmer considers the changing sky; A teacher says, "Take out your pencils. Begin."

We encounter each other in words, words spiny or smooth, whispered or declaimed; words to consider, reconsider.

We cross dirt roads and highways that mark the will of someone and then others who said, "I need to see what's on the other side; I know there's something better down the road."

We need to find a place where we are safe; We walk into that which we cannot yet see.

Say it plain, that many have died for this day. Sing the names of the dead who brought us here, who laid the train tracks, raised the bridges, picked the cotton and the lettuce, built brick by brick the glittering edifices they would then keep clean and work inside of.

Praise song for struggle; praise song for the day. Praise song for every hand-lettered sign; The figuring it out at kitchen tables.

Some live by "Love thy neighbor as thy self."

Others by first do no harm, or take no more than you need.

What if the mightiest word is love, love beyond marital, filial, national. Love that casts a widening pool of light. Love with no need to preempt grievance.

In today's sharp sparkle, this winter air, anything can be made, any sentence begun.

On the brink, on the brim, on the cusp -- praise song for walking forward in that light.

For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus - and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.

Here's Viggo as Aragon. I can barely stand to see him in street clothes. It confuses my brain. He is a very good actor. So believeable. He changes his body language completely for each character. And his eyes are so blue, especially in this picture because it's basically a drawing, but, I don't care. because I am totally caught up in the whole business.

Viggo Mortenson

Here is Viggo, in Appaloosa with Ed Harris and Renee Z. (she's a pain in my heiny)sorry. But Viggo is always a pleasure to behold. This movie dragged on badly. But Viggo saved the day with his cute little cowboy ways. Thank you Viggo, you are awesome.

Jan. 20: President Barack Obama rests his hand on President Lincoln's Inaugural Bible as his wife Michelle Obama holds it as he takes the oath of office at the U.S. Capitol in Washington.

Sasha and Malia, so cute. That's Barack's Sister Maya, I think she lives in Hawaii, and his Mother in Law on the left. She's moving into the White House too. Maybe Malia wants to be President someday. Right now she's The President of looking cute. Dang Cute.

Amen, brother Ben

To this day, I still think Lonesome Dove is my best part.
Robert Duvall

And I quote

"On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord,"

I just watched the inauguration. The Presidents speech was awesome, of coarse. The 2 million or so people that were there is a sight to behold. A bunch of people gathered in the kitchen at work to watch it together. I cried during Rick Warren's beautiful prayer. 2 million people saying the lords prayer together is a glorious thing. And YoYo Ma playing simple gifts was so beautiful my heart soars like an eagle. Aretha's hat even made me happy. God Bless the first family and the United States of America. Washington is so beautiful and the sun was shining. He makes me feel like Rosie the Riveter. That's funny. Change gonna come, oh yes. So, let's all roll up our sleeves and make our ancestors proud and our children inspired!

Yoga!

I am in love with yoga! I have been doing it all month and it is great! So, I've done yoga before, but just randomly, not enough time to see the effects (let's just say I am a little impatient!), but after three weeks of yoga (mostly everyday) I can already feel my posture improving! And that has been my biggest concern! I mean no one wants to flop down on a toilet and have their forehead hit their knees because of poor posture and believe me, i was almost to that point! Now, I sit on the pot and VOILA! I can see my shining face in the mirror! And it is so relaxing which is really great after working those long 12 hour shifts. Now I am not sure if my muscles are actually lengthening yet, but I do feel a slight bit more flexible! And if I turn out long, lean and sinuous I won't be ashamed! I get these dvds on netflix that are great, and it allows me to switch up my routine and I love seeing Denise Austin's eyes practically shoot out of her head because of her yoga excitement!

Classes are mostly in full-swing which is stressful (thanks yoga!) But I just try not to think about it all at once, for fear of spontaeously combusting! So, as per usual, I will go at it week by week (maybe not the best idea-but that is how I have always gotten by!). I just have no room for stress in my life. I am a little busy bee! I have been working a lot at the hospital squeezing in hours anywhere I can trying to score some bucks for my cruise-ola! I am so excited! I think I have about 45 days until I set sail, which is fabulous! So I just need to make like 1o bucks a day until then and I should be good!

I need cruising advice. Like how much is a marg (arita) going to set me back? 4bucks? 5 bucks? 10 bucks? And what about bringing alcohol on, good idea or bad? And excursions, do you book with cruise or try and find something a little more exciting at a lower price? ahH! I need you seasoned traveler's advice! Until then, I shall be swamped with school and trying to watch all my shows!

Boo, I have a better idea..come see me! I have shopping, yummy food, and a beach!! I took a 2 hour road trip to Jacksonville yesterday to help celebrate mini-Matt, Kennedy, turn 1.  She is so cute!! I got to hold her and help her walking around the living room with out even a hint of a tear.  Roman was dropping football facts like it was his job.  Matt seems to be happy as can be and Angela seems like she has loosened up.  Gabby and I are settling into the dorm right now tuning into are favorite night of television.  Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, and The City..FABULOUSSSSS!! Today the city of Savannah shut down for MLK day..it was unbelievable.  It took what is usually a 5 minute drive to a almost 40 minute drive.  I hope all of yall are doing well.  I am about to paint my nails.  Oh and I recently purchased a book about Edie Sedgwick and having become soooo interested in her.  She was the like first Paris Hilton but so awesome.  She was a little out of control but so beautiful.

Wild, Beautiful, and Free. So sad she died to young.  Love you ladiesssss

I just received a lovely phone call form Hunter Lane thanking me for his birthday card...his Momma must have raised him right!! It was so good to hear his voice. I think I'd like to take a road trip to visit him in April or May, any one want to come? I have not been to the DC area since I was 13 and pushing Tiff in a stroller.
I spent a great weekend at the cabin with Hirsch and 4 other couples from his office. Temperatures warmed up almost 50 degrees from-18 to 30. Lots of good food, gun shooting, and four wheel ridin' in the dark. One of the guys said he was sure it must be illegal to have that much fun! Isn't that cute! We even got to see Will, Ann, and Drake for the day on Sunday. They stayed overnight because they have today off for MLK Day.
Mick (and Sydney)gets home from 3 days skiing in Michigan today - I will be doing a hicky check??
Loved hearing from Ty Ty
Tori when I come for a visit will you bake me some bread?
Does anyone else hate Christy for being on a cruse...I sure do!!
Love you all

No Country for Old Men

I watched this movie last night. Yikes! I've never seen so many people get shot, but, Tommy Lee Jones was in it, so I watched it. The ending was abrupt, which I sort of don't like in a movie. Josh Brolin was good. Too bloody though. My favorite part was the scene with Barry Corbin. He played Ellis, the fella in the wheelchair. Barry Corbin was in Lonesome Dove too. There are several more LD tie ins but I will spare you the details. When you see me next and you're curious I will tell you. hahaha! Too bad I'm serious. I am having one of those days when it's hard to type. I'm going to go do some work. Hopefully, I won't think of anything else clever to say until my work is done. Cleverness should not be squelched.

GG Custer is the one who looks like him the most though. Although this civil war feller kinda looks like him too.

Mike?

Fridtjof Wedel-Jarlsberg Nansen (October 10, 1861 – May 13, 1930) was a Norwegian explorer, scientist and diplomat. Nansen was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1922 for his work as a League of Nations High Commissioner. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest personalities in the history of Norway.

Okay, so, we have this guy, Vincent Van Gogh and the civil war guy all lookin' like Mike.

Hi ladies! Macy's and I have been one for the past 10 days! Gordon gets back from Annapolis tomorrow. I think he has enjoyed his time with the midshipmen. The dogs and I are bonding but I am not getting a whole lot done around here.

Tor, you are right, nothing better then the smell of bread baking unless of course its the smell of bacon frying. I love my bread machine but I dont wear the product well.

Logann drove down to Jacksonville this weekend to see the Loux family and celebrate Kenedy's Birthday bash. Sounds like Roman and Ty could have one serious football conversation, maybe they need to do their own draft next season!!!!

Stay warm and safe ladies, miss you all!
Love
Cathy

Have I told everyone about my bread machine? Well, I got a fabulous bread machine for christmas and I absolutely love it. So far I have made a French Baguette (yumm-o), lemon poppy seed bread (also great) and a delicious banana bread loaf. It is truly fantastic and fun! All you have to do is throw in all of the ingredients and soon your house will be smelling like heaven and you will have fresh warm, bread to much on! I have so many recipes I can hardly wait to make them all! Jake & I are torn over what to try next-- breadsticks? breadsticks with cheese? sugard donuts? Rosemary and olive bread?-- I mean this thing doesn't stop at loaves of bread alone! I think I will be making bread until I die! I can't wait to share some with you guys!

Bride Wars

So Kiki, Ann and I caught Bride Wars on Friday afternoon and it was extremely enjoyable! Most of the movie is pretty much the same as what you get from the trailer, until the end. It is was funny and sweet and definitely the perfect chick flick for a Friday afternoon. I just adore Kate Hudson. The movie is a little predictable, but most movies are these days. It somewhat reminded me of me & my bestie kaily, just because I am blonde and she is a brunette! haha! The costuming was of course fabulous! I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Jake is going to the gun show today with Travis, while Brittany (travis' wife) and I are going to go to the park with the dogs. We will definitely have to bundle up though, it is only about 20 degrees here today, which is warmer than it has been. We will probably settle in and watch a movie tonite with them. I am making baked ziti!

Ty wants to say hello!

GUESS WHOSE BACKKK

Hello my lovely ladies,

I know it has been awhile since I have posted but I feel like I haven't stopped since I've gotten to Savvy.  The weather has been beautiful, 60ish almost every day.  I only have classes on Tuesday and Thursday and I am totally loving it! Gabby is like a brand new person.  We get along SOO well, we eat lunch in the park, go window shopping, ride our bikes, just enjoying our youthful college experience.  However, Boo you have been on my mine for the past week.  Why do you ask? Well we were in need of some hand soap for our bathroom.  Gabby returns with the wonderful TONE: foaming hand wash.  Every time i squirt the foam onto my dirty hands the Island Mist fragrance rushes through my nose and reminds me of your house.  Today is my last day of classes for the week and I think im going to keep it pretty low key tonight, probably watch a movie or GREys anatomy!! However, Friday night is a big 80s party which I can not wait to dress up for!! On Sunday I am driving down to Jacksonville to see Matt and be there for Kennedys first birthday partayy.  It really is weird how the older you get the faster time goes by.  I mean Hunter is 21, Tori is married, Mick can drive, tiff has children... It feels like yesterday tori and i were selling lemonade on the golf course or picking on Hunter.  Hope all is well for you ladies. Love you sooo soo much

Diablo Cody

I am hoping all of you have seen Juno, I know it is kinda old news now, but not to me. It is still a great movie, and I encourage you to revisit it, or visit it for the first time this weekend! it is so catchy and smart that I can hardly stand it. This is all thanks to Diablo Cody, whose story is so intriguing I can hardly keep from wetting myself! Diablo Cody is obvy a pen name, as her real name is Brook Busey (which reminds me of Gary). Not only did she pen Juno, but before that she was famous for chronicling her plites as a stripper through a blog and a memoir (which I have yet to read, but have no doubt it is totes brills). Her next film is about a teenage cannibal, which I find interesting, called Jennifer's Body, and will without a doubt be as unique and witty as Juno. I mean she went from college grad, to stripper, to oscar winning screen writer!
